University of Birmingham Air Squadron

The next UBAS recruiting period will take place during September/October 2008, at which we aim to recruit approximately 30 students for the new first year on the squadron. Please note that we do not recruit at any other time during the year. 

HOW DO I JOIN UBAS?

Firstly you must check that you fall within the following criteria:

  • Are you a British citizen, or a citizen of a Commonwealth country or the Republic of Ireland?
     

  • Have you lived in the UK for the last five years?
     

  • Are you on your first full-time degree course (not Foundation year) and do you have at least 2 years of full-time study (not including placement years) remaining?
     

  • Are you over 17 1/2 years of age?

If you have answered no to any of those questions you may not be eligible for membership. Please contact us at 364142k@cosford.raf.mod.uk if you have any questions of eligibility.

If you have answered yes to all these questions, and wish to join UBAS, please visit our stand at your university's Freshers Fayre (see below for dates).

FRESHERS FAYRES

We will be attending Freshers Fayres at the following universities in 2008:

  • University of Birmingham (23-24 Sep 08)

  • Birmingham City University (24 Sep 08)

  • Warwick (29 - 30 Sep 08) 

  • Keele (30 Sep 08)

  • Aston (05 Oct 08)

The only way to join UBAS is by visiting us at your Freshers Fayre (there will be a UBAS stand all day, however please arrive by mid-afternoon at the latest to avoid disappointment).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS

At the recruitment stand you will be able to talk to current student members who will be able to answer any of your questions. If you're still interested we will ask you to complete an application form and then have an informal chat with a member of the UBAS Staff.

After this stage, your application will be considered along with all those who have applied to join. From the initial 100 or so who give us applications, we will interview approximately 40 for 30 places. It may sound like long odds but it isn’t. If you have the right character then you stand a very good chance of being selected. Interviews will take place between 13-17 October, and should you be selected, you will be required to attend an Induction Camp which will run from 15-19 December.
